Like many women in Tanzania, Maria never had the opportunity to go to school. Unable to read, write or count, her opportunities to make a living were limited. For years, she struggled to earn an income and to provide enough food to feed her family.
But then Maria was introduced to the A+ Program, supported by Caritas Australia, and she was able to participate in training about sustainable farming, literacy and numeracy, hygiene, and more.
Now, Maria is reading, writing and thriving. She is able to produce enough food to feed her children three meals a day, earn an income, and has even gone on to become a leader in her community.
